The Short Version
The Barefoot Bub uses an essential session cookie, plus first-party analytics and attribution cookies that help us understand how people find and use the site. We do not use advertising cookies, sell your data, or share it with ad networks for retargeting.
What Cookies We Use
- Session cookie (essential)— Set by NextAuth.js when you sign in. Keeps you authenticated between page loads. It is a httpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax cookie containing a signed session token — not your personal data. It expires when your browser session ends, or after 30 days if you chose “Stay signed in.”
- Analytics cookies (non-essential) — We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage — which pages are popular, how visitors move through the site, and where drop-off happens. Google Analytics sets its own cookies (e.g.
_ga) to distinguish visitors. We use this data in aggregate to improve the site, not to identify you personally. - Attribution cookie (non-essential) — A first-party cookie (
ws_first_touch) set on your first visit that records how you first arrived — the marketing source (UTM tags) and the referring site, if any. It lets us measure which channels bring people who create registries, so we can invest in what works. It is a first-party, httpOnly cookie kept for up to one year, is never shared with advertisers, and contains no name, email, or contact details.
What We Don't Use
- No Meta Pixel or advertising pixels
- No cross-site retargeting or ad-network cookies
- No selling or sharing of personal data with advertisers
- No fingerprinting or persistent identifiers beyond those described above
Affiliate Link Tracking
When you click an affiliate link, we log the click server-side (no cookies involved). This is a server log entry — not a cookie or browser-side script. It records which item was clicked and the timestamp.
Your Choices
The analytics and attribution cookies are non-essential. You can clear or block cookies using your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics using Google's opt-out browser add-on. Blocking the session cookie will prevent you from staying signed in, but you can still browse the site without being signed in.
